CakeSpaz has been a passion project created, managed, and owned by Chef Haley Dove since its inception in 2010. From instructional videos to custom desserts, CakeSpaz has evolved into the exceptional bakery it is known to be today. Read below to learn more about the history of CakeSpaz and how Chef Haley Dove got her start!

Establishing Roots

October 2003

Elk Grove, CA

Chef Haley Dove begins designing her own cookie recipes and competes in her first ever baking competition at Elk Grove's Giant Pumpkin Festival, winning first place at just 9 years old.

2008

Sacramento, CA

Chef Haley Dove continues to compete at local and statewide events over the years, featuring her own recipes and designs, winning "Best in Show" in 2008 among countless first place awards and multiple "Best in Class".

August 2010

Newark, CA

CakeSpaz is born! Established by Chef Haley Dove to share her passion for pastry, the first instructional is posted to YouTube with a recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies. CakeSpaz "like page" is created on Facebook.

Chef Haley Dove begins accepting custom cake orders and designing unique requests as CakeSpaz continues to grow with underground and guerrilla marketing, selling out of over 100 cake pops in a single day monthly at her high school for nearly two years straight. 

 

Live Demonstrations requested by Newark Library teaching children and parents how to make CakePops.​​

2013

Culinary Institute of America

St Helena, CA

The prestigious Culinary Institute of America was Chef Haley's dream school since she was young. Admitted directly out of high school, she studied for an Associate's in Baking and Pastry and received direct guidance and inspiration from top industry leaders, including Chef Thomas Keller. After two years of rigorous study, she graduated with Perfect Attendance in 2015. 

2015

Walt Disney World
Orlando, FL

Upon graduating her dream school, Chef Haley Dove continued pursuing her dreams and was hired to work as a baker at the most Magical Place on Earth, Walt Disney World. Here she learned how to create magic with food and design desserts that make every moment special. 

2016

Golden 1 Center

Sacramento, CA

Another year later, she returned home to Sacramento, CA to accept a pastry position for the opening team of the NBA Sacramento Kings' new state-of-the-art arena, the Golden 1 Center. Featuring 80% of ingredients sourced locally within 100 miles. Combining high volume with intricate detail, she continued perfecting her craft. 

2018

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe

Truckee, CA

​After two seasons with the Sacramento Kings, Chef Haley Dove decided to spread her wings and pursue another dream of hers, to work for The Ritz-Carlton in North Lake Tahoe. Here, she grew to deeply understand the meaning of personalization and going above and beyond.

2020

Elk Grove, CA

CakeSpaz returns! With the pandemic in full swing, Chef Haley Dove decides to devote more time to her favorite passion project as she begins designing and advertising new ideas and products for community members looking for a little bit of something sweet to brighten their days. 

2022

Silverado Resort

Napa, CA

With enough time spent in the snow, Chef Haley Dove continued on to Silverado Resort in Napa, creating banquet menus and desserts for VIP guests, wine pairings, and leading the small pastry kitchen's team herself. 

2024

Elk Grove, CA

Chef Haley Dove emphasizes CakeSpaz's longevity by completing the Growth Factory Roseville's Food Entrepreneur Start Up Program and â€‹additional business and marketing classes at Los Rios Colleges.

New digital media created as CakeSpaz records voice over videos highlighting recently made cakes and producing a new segment of instructional shorts for YouTube called "ChefHacks by CakeSpaz".

​

CakeSpaz receives CFO Certification, allowing decreased overhead as products are baked hyperlocally.
